Lead is the waterproofing at the junctions: where two slopes meet in a valley, where a roof meets a wall, and around a chimney. Those are the places most leaks start. A cover flashing with no soakers under the tiles looks finished and still lets wind-driven rain through. What we do
- Lead valleys, where two roof slopes meet and debris and water collect
- Soakers under each tile or slate course at a wall or chimney, plus the step flashing over them
- Apron flashing at the front of a chimney and the back gutter behind the stack
- Lead dressed into a fresh chase and pointed, not sealed over old mortar
- Code 4 lead on exposed flashings. Sound lead is re-dressed. Split or holed lead is replaced.
- Dormer and abutment details, not a single strip of lead dressed down the wall

Why valleys leak
A valley takes water from two slopes. Leaves block it, the lead splits, or the tiles are cut too tight so water runs under them. We clear the line, check the lead and the cuts, and replace the valley if the metal has failed. A patch on split lead in a long valley does not last.
