Coverings
What we install
- Concrete interlocking tiles, the usual covering on most houses in this area
- Clay tiles, where the house already has them or you want that finish
- Natural slate
- Flat roofs in EPDM rubber, felt or GRP, on garages, extensions, dormers and porches
Pitched re-roof
What a pitched re-roof includes
- Scaffold or safe access, priced in the quote.
- Strip the old tiles or slates, felt and battens.
- Check the rafters. Soft or rotten timber is replaced before the new roof goes on.
- New breathable membrane and treated battens.
- Tiles or slates laid from the eaves up and mechanically fixed. Mortar alone is no longer enough to hold hips and ridges.
- New lead at chimneys, walls and valleys.
- Ridges, verges and a check that water sheds properly.
Compliance
Building regulations
A like-for-like repair of a small area is usually maintenance. A full re-roof, where most of the covering is replaced, is normally notifiable under Building Regulations, and insulation may need upgrading. Planning permission is not usually needed if the look stays the same. It can be needed in a conservation area, on a listed building, or if the material or the roofline changes. We tell you what applies to your roof before work starts.

Repair or new roof
We will say if a repair is enough. A new roof makes sense when the covering is failing in more than one place, the membrane has perished, or you are already paying for repeat leaks.
