Pigment roof painting
Faded, patchy or stained tiles make a roof look older than it is. Pigment roof painting is a specialised coating applied to concrete and clay tiles after the roof has been cleaned. It restores the colour and adds a protective layer against UV and weather. It is not ordinary house paint, and it is not a structural repair.

What pigment roof painting does
- Restores the original colour or changes it to a new one
- Seals porous concrete tiles so they shed water better
- Adds UV protection so the colour lasts longer
- Gives a more uniform look across the whole roof
- Can slow moss and algae returning when used after a proper clean
It does not fix cracked tiles, failed lead, or structural problems. Those need repairing first.
Process
How the job is done
- 1
The roof is cleaned so the surface is free of moss, algae and dirt. Paint will not stick to a dirty or mossy roof.

Any loose or broken tiles are replaced, and ridges or flashings are checked.

The pigment coating is applied evenly, usually by spray or roller, in the chosen colour.
- 4
It is left to cure. Most systems need dry weather during application and the early cure.
Good fit
When it is worth doing
- Tiles are sound but faded, stained or patchy
- You want to change the roof colour without re-tiling
- The roof has been cleaned and you want the result to last longer
- You are preparing a house for sale and want a fresher look
It is not suitable if the tiles are already porous and crumbling, or if there are active leaks that have not been fixed.
